Niagara Sweeps Midweek Doubleheader From Bonnies

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Little Three rival Niagara Wednesday afternoon at Joyce Field.

The Bonnies fell in game one, 5-2, and dropped the nightcap, 1-0, in a pitcher's duel.

Game 1 – Niagara 5, St. Bonaventure 2
The Purple Eagles struck first in the top of the third, scoring a pair of runs on a double to right-center field.

Bona's was quick to respond, however, when Brooke Bobbey singled home Emily Piergustavo and came around to score on a stolen base and an error, tying the game at 2-2.

Niagara pulled back ahead in the next half inning after a Lindsay Mayo two-run home run.

The Purple Eagles added an insurance run in the top of the seventh, earning the 5-2 victory.

Emily Phelan went the distance in the circle, fanning four.

Game 2 – Niagara 1, St. Bonaventure 0
Niagara was able to push across game two's first run of the game in the top of the third on an RBI groundout.

That is all the Purple Eagles pitching staff would need as Cara Leone, Riley Crum and Siege Jackson combined to toss a four-hit shutout.

Olivia Santos, Lyndsay Flippin, Emily McKenna and Tess Spangenburg all tallied a hit for the Bonnies.

Elizabeth Lis earned the start in game two, pitching her fourth complete game of the season.

The Bonnies are back in action Saturday afternoon on the road at George Washington. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
