ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure men's basketball head coach Mark Schmidt has announced the commitment of 6-foot-11 transfer center Noel Brown who will join the Bonnies for the 2023-24 season.
Brown will come to Western New York via George Washington where he previously played three Atlantic 10 seasons. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"We are excited about the addition of Noel and his family to the St. Bonaventure community. Noel is athletic, strong and will bring some added physicality to our front court," Schmidt said. "He can defend, rebound and has showed the ability to score with his back to the basket in limited opportunities. Noel fits our style well and we expect him to make an impact next season. It's also nice that he knows the Atlantic 10. I am looking forward to getting Noel to campus this summer."
In three seasons at GW, Brown played in 68 games including 17 starts with the Colonials. During that time, he averaged 2.8 points and 2.2 rebounds in over 11 minutes per contest.
He started 11 of 23 games as a sophomore in 2021-22, posting 3.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. This past year, he saw time in all 32 games with six starts while averaging 3.2 points and 2.2 boards in 11.4 minutes per night. He shot over 58 percent from the floor.
A Virginia native, he led Flint Hill High to an appearance in the state's Division I tournament while averaging 13 points and eight rebounds per game. He earned First Team Virginia All-State honors and was the Fairfax County Player of the Year.
Brown joins a Bonnies core that figures to return its top six scorers from this past season. He is the second newcomer to join the recruiting class along with incoming freshman guard Miles Rose who committed during the early signing period last fall.
