High Point Gets Past Bonnies on Senior Day

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Visiting High Point opened the game on a 9-1 run and never looked back, holding off the St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse team, 17-8, on a cold and rainy afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.

High Point (8-6, 2-2 A-10) dominated the first half, taking a 12-2 lead to halftime.

The Bonnies found some traction in the second half, outshooting the Panthers by a 33-14 tally after intermission, but by then HPU was in complete control.

Graduate student Sean Westley posted a team-high three points in his final home game. The leading scorer in program history, Westley has 153 career points with one game remaining.

Seniors Jake Rosa and Mark Belles along with sophomore Conor Murphy had two points apiece, each with a goal and an assist.

Graduate student Austin Blumbergs and senior Joey Paterno each tallied a goal on Senior Day while junior Tage Hoeg also found the back of the net.

Defensively, freshman Owen Tasse recorded a career-high four caused turnovers while junior Cam Germain added three. In net, freshman Cristofero Cucciuffo posted seven saves while senior Conan Lynch made three.

For High Point, Jack Sawyer and Jack Vanoverbeke each logged seven points to power the Panthers attack. Brayden Mayea had a team-best five goals and six points.

Prior to the game, the Bonnies honored their graduating class of seniors including Belles, Rosa, Paterno, Lynch, Adam Shank, Brett Chiodo, Brady Wijbrandts and Jake Emmick.

In addition, Blumbergs, Westley, Andrew Hersey, David Steria, Zach Owens, Nick Conklin and Zack Belter all played their final home games as graduate students.

The Bonnies (1-12, 0-4) wrap up the season next weekend at Richmond.
