Bonnies Softball Rallies for Doubleheader Split To Win Series at GW

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team used a four-run seventh to rally for a 4-2 victory and a doubleheader split at George Washington Sunday afternoon.

The Bonnies dropped game one, 8-1, but re-grouped to take two out of three from the Colonials and earn the series victory.

Game 1 – George Washington 8, St. Bonaventure 1
The Colonials struck first by scoring the game's first run on a wild pitch.

GW tacked on two insurance runs in fifth inning, plating the first run of the inning on a Gabby Polsky RBI double. Polsky came around to score later in the inning on an error.

The Bonnies were able to cut into the deficit in the top of half of the sixth when Emily Piergustavo singled to right field, scoring Olivia Whitecar and making the score 3-1.

George Washington extended its lead to 8-1 in the sixth on an error, sacrifice fly and a three-run home run, proving to be the difference in game one.

Emily Phelan struck out four a complete game effort.

Brooke Bobbey collected two hits for the Brown and White while Madison Stewart added a double. Whitecar also added a single and reached base twice.

Game 2 – St. Bonaventure 4, George Washington 2
Down to the their last at-bats, Whitecar gave the Bonnies life with a bases-loaded RBI single up the middle, scoring Macy Miller. That brought the score to 2-1 after GW had held the Bonnies scoreless through the first six frames.

Next up was Abby Suhr who brought home the tying run on an RBI groundout.

Kennedy Haberl gave the Bonnies their first lead of the game with a two-run double to right-center field, pushing the Bonnies ahead, 4-2.

GW was able to load the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Elizabeth Lis was able to work out of the jam and secure the victory.

George Washington was able to get on the board first by way of an RBI double in the bottom of the third, taking a 1-0 lead.

The Colonials extended their lead to 2-0 with a second RBI double in the bottom of the fifth.

Lis went the distance for the Bonnies, earning her second victory of the season.

The Bonnies are back in action when they start a three-game Atlantic 10 series with Rhode Island Saturday, April 29 at Joyce Field. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
