WASHINGTON, D.C. –
Fiona McGovern and
Brooke Piper each netted hat tricks, but the St. Bonaventure University women's lacrosse couldn't overcome the offensive attack of George Washington, falling 22-11 Saturday afternoon.
George Washington got off to a quick start as Kerry McKeever got the Colonials on the board just 30 seconds into the game.
The Colonials (6-11, 5-4 A-10) would then go on a 4-0 run to take a 5-1 advantage midway through the first quarter.
Piper would respond quickly for the Bonnies, as the freshman tallied three straight goals in a span of a minute and a half to cut the GW lead to two.
Nora Anderson capped off the first quarter by using a
Grace Hollenbeck pass to put one past the Colonials goalkeeper as the Bonnies came within two goals.
The second quarter was all George Washington, taking a 13-6 lead into intermission.
St. Bonaventure (6-11, 4-5 A-10) would begin the third quarter on the offensive attack as Anderson added her second goal, followed by a score from
Kassi Hogan.
However, George Washington notched seven straight to increase its lead.
McGovern would add two more in the fourth, but there was not enough time left in the contest for a Bonnies comeback.
The Bonnies were led by McGovern's and Piper's three goals each, while Anderson chipped in two scores.
Goalkeepers
Ashley Herrick and Haley McIntyre combined for 6 saves Saturday afternoon.
