ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – A trio of Bonnies scored two goals apiece, but it would not be enough to overcome Saint Joseph's as the Hawks came away with an 18-9 victory Saturday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.
Graduate students Sean Westley and Zach Owens each scored twice while sophomore Conor Murphy found the back of the net two times as well for the Bonnies. Westley paced the offense with four total points after handing out a pair of assists as well.
Murphy's first goal made it a 1-1 tie four minutes in, but the Hawks would run off the next six goals for a 7-1 advantage.
The Bonnies pulled closer on three straight tallies – the second of the day from Murphy after scores from Owens and Jake Rosa brought the hosts within 7-4 with 7:22 left in the half.
Saint Joseph's, though, would finish the half on a run to go into halftime up, 10-4.
Austin Blumbergs started the second half by scoring less than 90 seconds into the third period for a 10-5 score.
The Hawks started another run, though, with five unanswered goals to put the game on ice.
Freshman goalie Cristofero Cucciuffo made a career-high 19 saves for the Bonnies. Quinn Nolan also held his own at the faceoff X against All-American Zach Cole with 12 faceoff wins.
Carter Page netted six goals for Saint Joseph's while Matt Bohmer and Levi Anderson each had hat tricks.
The Bonnies head to UMass next Saturday at 1 p.m.
