NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure placed 266 student-athletes on the 2022-23 Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
That number represents over 70 percent of St. Bonaventure's student-athlete population.
Designed to recognize excellence in the classroom, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport at a full member institution must have a combined fall and spring semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the academic year to be selected for the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Both freshmen and graduate students are eligible to receive the award. In each of the last six years, the league honored over 3,000 student-athletes per year.
"It is extraordinary that once again our student-athletes have set a record for Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction," stated A-10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. "Scholastic achievement is a cornerstone of the Atlantic 10 Conference, and the educational experience and academic success of our student-athletes is a priority to the A-10 membership. I applaud each of the student-athletes and our 15 schools for their commitment and continued success."
Bonnies women's lacrosse had 37 student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, most of any Bonaventure team. Baseball secured 28 Honor Roll selections while softball posted 26 and men's soccer recorded 25. Other Bonnies leaders included women's soccer (22), women's cross country/track (20) and men's lacrosse (20). Golf placed nine of 11 team members on the Honor Roll while women's tennis had seven of eight players recognized and men's tennis saw seven of 10 achieve Honor Roll status.
In addition, men's cross country/track had 19 Honor Roll selections while men's swimming and diving as well as women's swimming and diving earned 18 each.
Twenty-five St. Bonaventure student-athletes posted perfect 4.0 GPAs while 172 were at 3.5 or higher. The average student-athlete GPA for Bonnies student-athletes was an impressive 3.6.
Despite having the league's smallest enrollment, St. Bonaventure was above the average Atlantic 10 number of 263 student-athletes selected to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
