Bonnies Power Past George Mason, 2-0

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Junior Andres Javitt and freshman Daniel Helle each scored to send the St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team past George Mason, 2-0, Saturday evening at the Marra Athletics Complex.

Javitt wasted no time giving the Bonnies (4-3-1, 1-1-0 A-10) the lead, taking a pass from Rafael Pereira at the top of the scoring area and sending a composed shot past the George Mason goalkeeper in the 12th minute. Kenzo Brito also registered an assist on the play. For Javitt, it marks his team leading fifth goal of the season.

The Patriots (1-4-2, 0-2-0 A-10) tried to get the equalizer before halftime, but Bonnies goalkeeper Jules Dechert was somehow able to keep the ball out of the net after making an acrobatic save off a shot that rocketed off the crossbar and down in front of the goal line.

Bona's notched a second goal in the contest in the 72nd minute following a long pass from Clay Smith to Javitt down the left side of the field. Javitt slid the ball across the front of the net to a waiting Helle who slotted home his second goal in as many games.

George Mason looked to get a goal back with under 10 minutes to play, firing three shots on net in the 84th, 85th and 86th minutes, but Dechert stood his line, earning his second straight shutout.

Dechert finished the night with seven saves in net, matching his season high.

Pereira paced the Bonnies with three shots while Umechi Akuazaoku and Javitt registered two apiece.

The Bonnies are back in action Tuesday, Sept. 26 on the road at Robert Morris in a non-conference match. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m.
