ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — After an evenly matched first half, Duquesne took control in the second, surging to a 2-0 win in Atlantic 10 play Sunday afternoon over the St. Bonaventure women's soccer team at the Marra Athletics Complex.
Bonnies junior goalkeeper
Chiara Gottinger stopped an early opportunity for the Dukes as she made a diving save in the third minute.
After that, the Bonnies (3-3-5, 2-1-1 A-10) dominated possession in the beginning minutes of action with sophomore
Olivia Allen and senior
McKenna Robinson each taking a shot, but unable to convert the chances into goals. Neither team was able to take control in the first frame, though, as they headed into halftime scoreless.
To begin the second half,
Lauren Westwood nearly put one in for the Bonnies off a freekick just outside the box, but found the crossbar.
The Dukes (5-5-2, 2-0-2 A-10) grabbed their first goal in the 67
th minute as they created chaos in front of the net on a corner kick, and Karly Steinher snuck a ball passed the Bona's defense.
Doubling the lead in the 72
nd minute, Brianna Moore capitalized off an untimely turnover from the Bonnies.
Gottinger made three saves and the Brown and White took 10 shots in the match to the Dukes' 14.
The Bonnies have Thursday off this week and return to play at Richmond on Sunday, Oct. 1.
