Men’s Soccer Readies for Pair of Road Matches

The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team returns to action with a pair of road contests this week. The Bonnies look to make it three wins in a row when they head to Robert Morris Tuesday, Sept. 26. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m. in Moon Township, Pa. Bona's then travels to Dayton for an Atlantic 10 matchup with the Flyers Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7:00 p.m.

HOME COOKING
The Bonnies had a perfect week at the Marra Athletics Complex, earning back-to-back wins over Little Three rival Canisius and A-10 foe George Mason.

Bona's bested the Golden Griffins, 4-0, last Wednesday to complete the sweep of the Little Three after defeating Niagara the week prior. Juniors Umechi Akuazaoku, Kenzo Brito and Andres Javitt as well as freshman Daniel Helle all scored to lead the Bonnies to victory. Jules Dechert secured the shutout, making five saves in net.

In Saturday's 2-0 win over the Patriots, Javitt opened the scoring in the 12th minute off a feed from Rafael Pereira and Brito. Helle secured the victory, netting the Bonnies' second goal of the contest in the 72nd minute with an assist from Javitt. Dechert earned his second shutout of the week and third of the season, matching his season-high with seven saves.

With the wins, the Bonnies record at the Marra Athletics Complex moves to 3-1-0.

LEADERS OF THE PACK
Andres Javitt, Kenzo Brito, Rafael Pereira and Jules Dechert rank among the A-10's best this season. Javitt currently ranks tied for second in the Atlantic 10 in goals (5), points (12) and game-winning goals (2). He also is first in the A-10 and fifth in the NCAA in shot accuracy (75 percent).

Brito and Pereira both have registered four assists this season which ranks tied for third in the A-10 while Brito's 10 points are tied for fourth-best in the Atlantic 10.

In net, Dechert is first in the A-10 and ninth in the NCAA, making 5.43 saves per game. He also ranks second among conference goalkeepers and is 13th in the NCAA with 38 saves this season. Dechert's .792 save percentages sits fourth in the A-10.

As a team, the Bonnies rank second in the A-10 in assists per game (2.25) and assists (18). Those numbers also rank 19th and 21st in the NCAA, respectively. Bona's also sits third in the A-10 in points (48) and fourth in goals (15).

ATLANTIC 10 HONORS
Senior goalkeeper Jules Dechert earned his second Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week honors Monday afternoon following his back-to-back shutouts. Full release.

ABOUT ROBERT MORRIS
Robert Morris enters Tuesday's contest with a 3-3-2 record overall and is 1-2-0 in Horizon League play. The Colonials began the season 3-2-0, but have fallen in their last three contests to Duquesne, IUPUI and Milwaukee. Robert Morris was picked to finish eighth in the Horizon League preseason poll.

Anass Hadran leads the Colonials with six points on two goals and two assists. Kai McLoughlin and Gabe Norris have also registered a pair of goals each for RMU. The Colonials have gotten goals from 12 different players this season.

In net, Kieran Gorgenyi and Josh Lane have seen the majority of action this season. Gorgenyi has appeared in six games, making 17 saves while Lane has played in two games and has made nine stops.

DAYTON NOTES
Entering the week, Dayton sits at 2-6-1 overall and 1-1-0 early on in Atlantic 10 play. The Flyers have recorded shutout wins over IUPUI (4-0) and Rhode Island (6-0) this season, but are coming off back-to-back 1-0 losses to No. 2 West Virginia and Saint Joseph's. Dayton was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.

Joseph Melto Quiah leads the Flyers with eight points on three goals and two assists. Hjalti Siguredsson has also tallied three goals to go along with an assist for seven points.

Dario Caetano has started all nine games in net for the Flyers, making 22 saves and allowing 15 goals.

The Bonnies return home to host UMass Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the Marra Athletics Complex. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
