ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team dropped a wire-to-wire contest against La Salle, 75-71, Wednesday evening at the Reilly Center.
Dani Haskell finished with a team-high 16 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists. Nadechka Laccen filled the stat sheet with 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in 24 minutes. Also in double figures were Claire Cody with 12 points, Tianna Johnson with 11 points and 10 points from Payton Fields.
Isabellah Middleton was able to get into the lane to give the Bonnies the lead, 54-53, with 7:39 left in the game. A Laccen layup made it a three-point lead before La Salle answered with a jumper to make it 56-55.
Trailing by one with 2:41 on the clock, Laccen drove through the defense on the fast break to put the Bonnies back on top, 63-62.
La Salle's Molly Masciantonio, however, made a 3-pointer on the following possession to give the Explorers back the lead, 65-63.
A pair of free throws from Johnson tied the game at 65-65, but another La Salle (5-10, 2-2 A-10) three pushed the visitors ahead for good.
The Bonnies (4-11, 1-3 A-10) were forced to foul, sending La Salle to the free throw line to ice the game from Masciantonio and Makayla Miller.
It was a back-and forth first half as the two teams combined for 43 first-quarter points that gave La Salle a 22-21 lead after the first 10 minutes.
After the La Salle lead grew to as many as 10 in the second quarter, the Bonnies closed the half on an 8-0 run to pull within one at the break, 34-33.
Miller finished with a game-high 19 points to lead the Explorers.
The Bonnies remain at home to host George Washington Sunday, Jan. 14. Tip is slated for 12:00 p.m. at the Reilly Center.
GAME NOTES
- The Bonnies finished the contest shooting 40.7 (24-for-57) percent from the floor while La Salle shot 41.8 percent (28-for-67) from the field.
- Bona's was +3 in points off turnovers, outscoring the Explorers, 12-9.
- Wednesday marked the first time the Bonnies had five players in double figures since Feb. 8, 2021 against Davidson.
- La Salle outrebounded the Bonnies, 42-33.
