Wednesday, Jan. 17 - 7:00 p.m.
Reilly Center
TV: ESPN+
Radio: Bonnies Online Network

OPENING TIP
  • St. Bonaventure looks to bounce back Wednesday night after losing its last two games.
  • Losing back-to-back A-10 home games has been rare for the Bonnies: A three-game skid last year was the first time they lost consecutive conference games at The RC since the 2018-19 season when they lost two games nearly two weeks apart Jan. 19 & Feb. 1, 2019. The last time the Bonnies lost back-to-back A-10 home games without a road game in between: Jan. 12 (vs. VCU) and Jan. 16, 2013 (vs. Xavier).
  • Chad Venning is on this week's Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll after posting 22 points and seven rebounds Saturday vs. Fordham. He went 8-for-14 from the floor and 6-for-7 at the foul line and his 22 points came just one point shy of his career-high of 23 set twice on the road, though it matched his highest scoring output inside the Reilly Center (he also tallied 22 points in an overtime game vs. George Washington at home last year).
  • The Bonnies allowing 80 points in Saturday's loss vs. Fordham is cause for headlines - it marked the first time that the Bonnies allowed 80 points in regulation to an Atlantic 10 foe since Feb. 1, 2022 vs. Davidson. Since the 2020-21 season, that Davidson game is the only time prior to last Saturday that an A-10 team has scored 80 or more points in regulation vs. the Bonnies.
  • Charles Pride has just six turnovers in over 384 minutes of game time, ranking 11th nationally in turnover rate. Mika Adams-Woods also has 54 assists against 22 turnovers.
  • Pride is one of only two guards nationally with over 1,600 career points and 800 rebounds, joining Creighton's Baylor Scheierman in that elite group.
  • Pride recorded his first double-double of the season (18 points, 11 rebounds) in Saturday's game. For his career, though, it was his 20th double-double as he achieved the feat 19 times in four seasons at Bryant.
  • The Bonnies enjoy one of college basketball's greatest home court advantages when playing in the Reilly Center. Since 2015-16, the Bonnies are 52-15 at home in Atlantic 10 games.

Wednesday is Service Night at the Reilly Center. All current and former military, police, fire and healthcare workers will receive free admission to the game with proper ID. TRENDING NUMBERS
3  –
The Bonnies are doing well both in shooting from beyond the arc as well as limiting opponents from deep. Bona ranks fourth among A-10 squads in three-point percentage at 37.2% while holding opponents to 30.5% in their long range attempts. For three-point percentage defense, only Richmond has been better at limiting teams in 3-point tries (29.5%).
7  – Three Bonnies rank in the top-7 among all A-10 players for 3-point percentage this season: Mika Adams-Woods (48.1%, 4th), Moses Flowers (46.2%, 6th) and Charles Pride (44.6%, 7th).
7.2  – Charles Pride is averaging 7.2 rebounds per game, ranking eighth among all A-10 players this year. Among guards, only GW's Maximus Edwards averages more (7.4 rpg).
11  – Bona is averaging 11 turnovers per game, which stands 88th in the country out of 362 Division I teams for fewest miscues per contest.
13  – Thirteen Division I teams have at least four active 1,000-point scorers on their roster: St. John's (6), TCU (5), Auburn (5), St. Bonaventure (4), Colorado St. (4), Creighton (4), Memphis (4), Missouri (4), Nebraska (4), New Mexico (4), Sacred Heart (4), Tennessee (4) and Villanova (4).

20 – Bona's bench has been extremely productive so far this season. The Bonnies are averaging 20 bench points per game, a drastic increase over last year's 11.8 bench points per game and 5.8 in 2021-22. To put it in perspective, in 33 games during the 2021-22 season when the Bonnies reached the NIT semifinals, they registered 190 bench points for the entire year. This year, the team had 265 bench points through just 13 games.
37.2%  – The Bonnies rank 40th nationally this season with their 37.2% success rate on 3-point shooting.

78.6%  – St. Bonaventure ranks sixth nationally so far this year in free throw percentage at 78.6% on the season, including going 20-for-22 Saturday vs. Fordham. Daryl Banks III is the best on the team at the line, sinking 91% of his tries at the line (30-33), which is 33rd among all players in the country.
177 – St. Bonaventure has an active streak of 177 consecutive games with at least one 3-pointer made dating to Nov. 25, 2017. The last time Bona finished a game without a trey was the day before, a win over Maryland on a neutral court Nov. 24, 2017.

SERIES HISTORY
URI leads, 43-31
The Bonnies and Rams meet for the 75th time on Wednesday night with Rhode Island having won seven of the last 10 meetings, a rare Atlantic 10 team the Bonnies have struggled with over an extended stretch in recent seasons.

Much of that is due to St. Bonaventure's struggles when traveling to the Ocean State where they have lost six in a row in Rhody's Ryan Center, including last year's 68-67 heartbreaker. The Bonnies have not won at Rhode Island since February 2013.

Bona has had a little better luck inside the Reilly Center, including a win the last time these two teams met here, 73-55, on Jan. 22, 2022. The Bonnies have won three of the last four vs. URI on home court, including a thrilling 77-74 victory over what was then a nationally-ranked Rhode Island squad Feb. 16, 2018, just weeks before the Bonnies earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament that year. In all, the Bonnies are 20-15 vs. Rhode Island at home.

ABOUT RHODE ISLAND
  • Rhode Island appears well on its way to surpassing its selection of 14th in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll as the Rams are one of three undefeated teams in the conference after starting A-10 play at 3-0 to stand tied with Dayton and Richmond atop the standings.
  • Rhody went just 6-7 in non-conference play, but immediately turned the tide with an impressive win over what was a 10-3 Saint Joseph's squad on the opening night of A-10 action. The Rams followed that up with a 79-74 win at Davidson and then beat UMass on home court by 12 on Saturday afternoon.
  • The Rams will be tested this week as they play back-to-back road games at St. Bonaventure and at Dayton, two teams picked to finish third and first respectively in the league preseason poll.
  • Rhode Island is 4-0 since junior forward David Green debuted with the squad, with him averaging over 15 points per game. He started the season ineligible as a two-time transfer after previously playing at Hofstra and Louisiana Tech. Following a change in NCAA transfer rules, he made his debut at the end of non-conference play.
  • URI is one of the A-10's top scoring teams since the turn of the calendar, averaging 82 points per game in conference play thus far. Jaden House's 19.5 ppg leads the way while Luis Kortright checks in at 16.5 ppg. The club is shooting nearly 40 percent from beyond the arc in three A-10 games so far.
  • Freshman forward David Fuchs has double-doubles in three of his last four games played.
