ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team dropped a 65-40 decision to Saint Joseph's Wednesday evening at the Reilly Center.
Isabellah Middleton paced the Bonnies with 10 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists. Dani Haskell and Tianna Johnson each added eight points for the Brown and White.
Coming out of the break down double digits, the Bonnies found a spark midway through the third quarter when Claire Cody started a 13-2 run to end the quarter, pulling the Bonnies back within 15. Johnson tallied four points during the run while Middleton, Haskell and Payton Fields also added buckets.
That is as close as the Bonnies (4-15, 1-7 A-10) would get as the Hawks (18-2, 7-1 A-10) opened the fourth on a 10-0 run to take back momentum.
Saint Joseph's grabbed an early double-digit advantage, but Haskell tallied six points on a pair of threes in the final 23 seconds of the opening period, including a half-court heave as time expired, to pull within seven after one.
The Hawks defense took over in the second quarter, holding the Bonnies scoreless for the final 8:14 of the half. The Bonnies drought extended into the third as the Hawks held the hosts scoreless for a total of 12:26.
Mackenzie Smith led all scorers with 20 points for Saint Joseph's.
The Bonnies are back in action Sunday, Jan. 28 on the road at Dayton. Bona's and the Flyers will be in the national spotlight on CBS Sports Network with tipoff slated for 12:00 p.m. on national TV.
