Bonnies Men's Lacrosse 2025 Schedule Announced

12/11/2024 1:00:00 PM

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse team will see more home competition in the upcoming season than ever before in program history as the Bonnies are set to play eight games at the Marra Athletic Complex to highlight their 2025 schedule.

The Bonnies will open their home lineup by welcoming VMI on Feb. 2 before Bucknell visits Feb. 8. St. Bonaventure will later host Binghamton (Feb. 15), Mercyhurst (Feb. 25), Mercer (March 6), and Cleveland State (March 8) during non-conference play before facing Saint Joseph's (April 5) and High Point (April 26) in Atlantic 10 competition.

The Brown and White are slated to make their first road trip at Mount St. Mary's on Feb. 11 followed by a trip to Robert Morris on Feb. 18. The remaining non-conference road trips will lead the Bonnies to Le Moyne (March 1), Canisius (March 11), and Bellarmine (March 15), followed by A-10 matchups at Richmond (March 29), Massachusetts (April 12), and Hobart (April 19).

Bona will have the opportunity to further old rivalries this season as well as open new chapters against programs they have yet to face.

SBU has taken two of three all-time meetings vs. VMI but the Keydets grabbed a win in last season's contest. Both Mount St. Mary's and Bucknell will be first-time opponents from the MAAC and Patriot League, respectively.

The Bonnies seek their first win in the series history against Binghamton with two overtime losses coming in consecutive seasons, the more recent being a 13-12 heartbreaker last season. SBU will also face Robert Morris for the third consecutive season, traveling outside Pittsburgh for the second time.

Bona will add two more new opponents to the schedule: Mercyhurst, a longtime Division II powerhouse which reached the 2023 Division II NCAA Championship Game before moving to the Division I ranks this year, and Le Moyne in their second D-I season after much success at the D-II level.

Bonaventure has only faced Mercer once and dropped that matchup during the 2020 season but will look to get in the win column over a team that narrowly missed a spot in the ASUN tournament last season.

Cleveland State is a familiar opponent as the Bonnies have faced the Vikings in five of their six years as a program. The series record sits at 3-2 in favor of CSU, who took last season's matchup 10-8 on their way to an ASUN conference semi-final loss. Bona is neck-and-neck in their series against rival Canisius, with each program boasting three wins. The Brown and White were victorious in last year's matchup, winning 12-8 at home.

Bellarmine has had the upper hand in past meetings over SBU, leading the series 3-1 and winning last season's matchup, 13-9, though the Bonnies will look to flip the script against a program that fell in the first round of last year's ASUN Tournament.

Despite being in just its third season, the A-10 will again boast some of the nation's top talent. Three A-10 programs were ranked in the top half of RPI last season: High Point ranked 37th, Richmond ranked 25th and defending conference champions Saint Joseph's finished No. 15.

Bonaventure will return six of last year's top seven scorers, only losing attacker Kellen Pulera, who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2023 NLL Draft by the Buffalo Bandits. Last year's leading point scorer and A-10 All-Rookie selection Jake Kucinski will return to bolster the offense. He will be joined by top defenders Ryan Olan and senior Aiden MacDonell who led the team in caused turnovers. Bona also returns junior goalie Cristofero Cucciuffo, who totaled 127 saves in 11 games played, and classmate Quinn Nolan, who is the top returner at the faceoff X.

The A-10 Championship is set to be hosted by Saint Joseph's, with semifinals being played on May 1 and finals on May 3. The tournament winner will secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
