Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest With Siena

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. — The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team dropped a 10-6 decision at Siena Saturday afternoon.

Saturday's matinee in Loudonville was a back-and-forth battle between the Bonnies (1-2) and the Saints through three quarters of play, but in the final frame, Siena's defense put the brakes on the Bonnies' attack as they went scoreless in the final 15 minutes.

The first quarter was a hard-fought defensive battle between the Bonnies and the Saints. Siena (2-2) struck first before sophomore Brooke Piper put Bona's on the board.

At the 7:57 mark, Fiona McGovern found a cutting Tori Nascimento who tucked the ball in the back of the cage and gave the Bonnies their first lead of the contest.

Penalty trouble at the end of the opening stanza allowed the Saints to square things at two.

The second frame was as evenly matched as the first. Siena and St. Bonaventure scored two apiece making the halftime score four-all.

The Saints tried to pull away with a pair of scores, but the Bonnies responded swiftly as back-to-back goals from Kassi Hogan and Piper eliminated the deficit.

Piper's second-quarter score was her 10th of the season in three games played.

The third quarter was more of the same, but Siena took one goal advantage into the final period.

Hogan netted her second of the day off a pass from McGovern, who then converted on the free position attempt at the end of the third.

The Saints ran with their 7-6 lead into the fourth quarter and never looked back. Three unanswered gave the hosts a 10-6 advantage with 7:19 to play and would end up being the final score.

Penalties plagued St. Bonaventure in the final 15 minutes with all of Siena's goals coming on the power play.

Ashley Herrick tallied 12 saves on the day while McGovern added to her three-point day with two groundballs. Nascimento and Piper each caused a turnover during the game.
