ST. BONAVENTURE (1-2) AT CALIFORNIA (1-3)
Thursday, February 29 – 5:00 p.m. EST (2:00 p.m. PST)
Berkeley, Ca.

The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team is headed out west for a two-game trip to California over spring break. The Bonnies will take on the Pac-12's UC Davis Tuesday evening and play at Cal on Thursday afternoon.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Bonnies dropped a 10-6 decision at Siena last Saturday. A tight defensive battle through three quarters went the way of the Saints in the fourth quarter as they held the Bonnies scoreless over the last 15 minutes.
  • Sophomore Brooke Piper had her third game in a row with multiple goals to open the 2024 season, scoring twice at Siena. She is up to 10 goals and 11 points with two caused turnovers and seven draw controls through three games.
  • Ashley Herrick made 13 saves in Saturday's contest holding the Saints to 10 goals.
  • Penalties allowed Siena to score five man-up goals. That is the most of any Bonnies opponent this season.

HELPING HAND
Fiona McGovern has led the Bonnies in assists through their first three games with six. Bona's leading scorer from 2023 has two goals thus far in '24, but has been able to find her teammates in front of the cage for her eight points.

WIN THE DRAW
Megan Schillinger has been stellar on the draw for St. Bonaventure. The sophomore has been the go-to on the draw and has collected 17 draw controls so far this season. Her 5.67 DC's average per game is the fourth-best in the Atlantic 10.

PENALTY TROUBLE
Penalties have been a problem for the Bonnies over the first three games of the season. In the Bonnies two losses, they have totaled 14 penalties and given up eight man-up goals. In their win over Bucknell, they recorded just three penalties.

PREVIOUSLY ON THE PACIFIC COAST
St. Bonaventure has played four different schools on the west coast since 2007, including Fresno State, Oregon, San Diego State, and most recently, Arizona State. The Sun Devils outlasted the Bonnies, taking a 16-13 decision in '23. Their lone win in seven contests came over Fresno State in 2009, 17-4.

SCOUTING UC DAVIS
Tuesday's meeting will be the first time the Bonnies and the Aggies have met in women's lacrosse. The Aggies have gotten out to a 3-1 start to the season with their only loss coming at the hands of Niagara. There are four Aggies with 10+ points through their first four games. Freshman Cami Johnson has led the attack with 11 goals and four assists. Fifth-year student Ashley Laing has spent the majority of the minutes in the cage with a .458 save percentage and a 11.15 goals against average.

CAL COMMENTS
The Bears are 1-3 through four games in 2024. They won their season opener with Akron, taking a 19-10 decision at home. They spent time in New York for their next two games at Le Moyne (L, 9-6) and Cornell (L, 13-7) before returning home for a game with Lindenwood (8-7). Offense has been a problem for Cal in their three losses. They were unable to get into double digits in all three losses, recording a .364 shot percentage over that span.
