ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to Richmond, 61-46, Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale.
Prior to Saturday's game, the Bonnies honored graduating student-athletes Nadechka Laccen, Payton Fields and Maddie Dziezgowski as part of Senior Day.
Isabellah Middleton poured in a game-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting to lead the Bonnies while Fields chipped in 13 tallies.
Richmond (26-5, 16-2 A-10), grabbed an early lead in the first quarter, racing out to a 7-0 lead midway through the period.
The Bonnies were able to cut into the deficit, closing the gap to two, 14-12, with 7:30 remaining in the half.
The Spiders, however, used a 10-0 spurt to take a double-digit lead, 24-12.
Bona's battled back, ending the half on a 7-2 run to pull within seven at the break, 26-19.
Richmond opened the second half with 11 unanswered points to take control of the contest, 37-19.
Back-to-back baskets from Middleton cut the deficit down to 13 with just over three minutes to play in the third.
That is as close as the Bonnies would get, however, as Richmond maintained its double-digit lead, capturing the Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship.
The Bonnies (4-25, 1-17 A-10) are back in action in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament Wednesday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m. at the Henrico Sports & Events Center in Henrico, Va. Bona's opponent is to be finalized later Saturday evening.
