LEADING OFF
  • The St. Bonaventure baseball team will finally play on home turf Tuesday after opening the 2024 season with 19 road games. Tuesday's game will be broadcast live on the Bonnies Online Network with a radio play-by-play.
  • SBU opened the season with an 844-mile trip to Charleston, S.C. for three games at The Citadel before a 669-mile trek to Louisville in the second weekend of the season. A 735-mile jaunt to Presbyterian followed by a 744-mile drive to Middle Tennessee made up the first four series on the year. In the last two weekends, the Bonnies have been creeping closer to home with midweek games at Binghamton and Penn State and a four-game series at Mount St. Mary's.
  • The Bonnies come into Tuesday's game looking to stay hot after winning four of their last five games. Bona was idle last weekend due to rain washing out a scheduled series at Rhode Island, but Bona won last time out at Penn State last Tuesday, 9-7, for the second win by the Bonnies over a Power 5 opponent this spring. That followed up a series win for Bona at Mount St. Mary's as they took three of four against The Mount.
  • In last week's win at Penn State, the Bonnies led 6-1 in the middle innings before the Nittany Lions tied it up in the seventh. A two-run single from Kyle Caccamise in the eighth inning proved to be the difference and Noah Czajkowski closed out the victory with a scoreless ninth on the hill. The Bonnies had 16 hits on the night, led by three from Jackson DeJohn while Caccamise, Adam Rankie, Paul Vossen and Ryan Davis all had two hits apiece.
  • Coming into Tuesday's game, the Bonnies have already matched their win total from all of last year at 8-11 overall and are seeking their first four-game winning streak since a four-game streak from April 26-30, 2017.

BRINGING THE BATS
St. Bonaventure enters this week ranking fifth among all Atlantic 10 teams in batting average at .276 on the season. The Bonnies cracked 16 hits in their win at Penn State March 19, marking the ninth time in the first 19 contests that the Bonnies have finished with 10+ hits in a game including three straight contests.

FRESHMAN PHENOM
Bonnies freshman catcher Antonio Cordeiro has been red hot as of late. For the week of March 12-17, he hit his first three collegiate homers and drove in nine runs. He ranks second on the team in batting average (.321) and second in homers (3) as well as RBIs (15). He also owns a .471 batting average with runners in scoring position.

GRAB A PROGRAM
Bonnies fans will need to grab a program at games this season to get to know all the newcomers on the roster for 2024. In all, there are 19 first-year Bonaventure student-athletes on the roster this season. The Bonnies brought in student-athletes from 13 different states plus Canada and 13 of the newcomers already have experience at the collegiate level prior to this season.

WHO'S HOT
  • Adam Rankie is hitting .370 over his last 10 games (17-for-46) with 13 RBIs. He has a .442 on-base percentage in that span.
  • Rankie is tied with freshman Antonio Cordeiro for the team RBI lead in the past 10 games as Cordeiro also has 13 RBIs in the last 10 games.
  • Rankie's nine doubles on the year are tied for second in the A-10 with Ethan Iannuzzi of VCU. Only VCU's Brandon Eike has more (11).
  • Jackson DeJohn has started to find footing at the plate, hitting .278 in the last 10 contests.
  • Kade Walker owns a 1.93 ERA, striking out 15 batters in his last 14 innings.

POWER MOVES
  • St. Bonaventure has scored two victories over Power 5 opponents in non-conference action this season.
  • Bona won at Louisville, 4-3, on Feb. 23 for the program's first win over a Power 5 opponent since 2019. Chance Moore was outstanding, throwing seven shutout innings after Louisville got three in the first, as he did not walk a batter and struck out four in his first career Division I start. Adam Rankie delivered the game-winning double in the eighth as the game went to extra innings as the first of a twinbill that day.
  • The Bonnies captured a 9-7 win at Penn State since March 19. After Penn State erased a 6-1 Bonnies lead after seven, a clutch two-run single from Kyle Caccamise in the eighth proved to be the game-winner.
  • St. Bonaventure has multiple wins over Power 5 opponents in the same season since 2008 when SBU won over both Boston College and West Virginia.

SERIES HISTORY
  • The Bonnies and the Dolphins played many times in past years when Le Moyne was previously a Division I program. The first meeting came during the 1988 season and the Dolphins hold a 9-7 advantage all-time.
  • Le Moyne swept a doubleheader at Handler Park in 2010, 9-5 and 9-2, in the last meetings between the programs.
  • The teams own an even 4-4 record at Handler Park all-time.

ABOUT LE MOYNE
  • The Dolphins were a Division I program from 1988 until the 2012 season when they transitioned to the Division II level. This spring marks the program's return to the Division I ranks. Le Moyne earned NCAA Tournament appearances in 1989, 2003, 2004 and 2007.
  • Le Moyne is led by head coach Scott Cassidy, a 1998 alum of the program.
  • The Dolphins, who have joined the NEC for this season, are coming off back-to-back Division II NCAA Tournament appearances including getting to the East Super Regional with 34 wins last year, winning the Northeast-10 Southwest Division title. Five all-conference performers from that team return this spring.
  • Le Moyne enters this week at 6-13 overall, having already played eight conference games with a 3-5 record in NEC play.
  • The Dolphins are hitting .231 as a team, led by Nick Nevins' .333 batting average. Brody Keneston leads the team in RBIs with 19 despite hitting .175. Le Moyne has a pitching staff ERA of 6.89.
  • Le Moyne athletic director Bob Beretta is an alum of the St. Bonaventure baseball program. He was a four-year letterwinner with St. Bonaventure baseball and a three-time captain. He posted a 1.93 ERA in 1985 which ranks second in Bonnies single season history and his 25 appearances in 1986 stand tied for second in Bona's history. He logged 11 saves during his career which also rank third in the program record book.
