ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure senior David James has earned recognition as the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.
James continued his outstanding season as Bona's ace with his strongest performance to date as he twirled a complete game shutout in a victory over George Washington in A-10 play last Thursday.
He scattered five singles across his nine innings while walking only one and striking out six. It was the first nine inning complete game shutout by a Bonnies pitcher since Casey Vincent did so in 2018 at Dayton. James' performance also is the first complete game shutout by an Atlantic 10 pitcher this season over nine innings.
The London, Ontario native has been one of the A-10's top pitchers all spring. With Thursday's win, he now has a 2.47 ERA over his eight starts with 44 strikeouts in 43.2 innings. Opposing batters are hitting just .211 against him for the year. James ranks third among all qualifying Atlantic 10 pitchers in season ERA and fourth in hits allowed per nine innings (7.01).
St. Bonaventure is back in action by hosting Canisius for a midweek game Wednesday at 3 p.m. before traveling to Davidson for A-10 play this weekend.
