WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Three solid rounds highlighted by a top-10 finish from graduate student Lance Sininger sent the St. Bonaventure golf team to a top-five rank in the final team standings at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate held Monday and Tuesday.
Sininger carded rounds of 72-71-73 to place in a tie for ninth in the field of nearly 80 competitors at the Golden Horseshoe Gold Course. As a team, the Bonnies logged scores of 297-294-292 for an 883 total at the par-71, 6,817-yard layout.
Princeton claimed the team crown with a final score of 857, ahead of George Mason (862), Longwood (870) and Navy (880) while the Bonnies tied with host William & Mary and Saint Joseph's to round out the top five in the 12-team field.
Longwood's Justin Larue won medalist honors by seven shots with his 10-under total of 203 over Christian Matt of Saint Joseph's.
Sininger drained a team-best 11 birdies during the week.
Michael Bucko (71-75-74/220) and Jude Cummings (75-73-73/221) were top-20 finishers as well, placing 18th and 20th respectively for the Bonnies.
Bucko carded 10 birdies in his 54 holes while Cummings was tied for second in the field with 37 pars. Cummings played the par 3s in even par for the week, tied for the best in the field and his 4.16 average on par 4s was also one of the best in the field along with Sininger who played the par 4s in +4 for the week.
Bucko made strides on the par 5s, playing them in 4-under for the tournament, while Sininger was close behind at 2-under.
Also in the lineup for the Bonnies were Peter Byrne (79-79-72/230) and Gabe Williams (81-75-77/233).
For the Bonnies, it is their best finish in the event since 2019.
The Bonnies are back in action April 8-9 at the Drexel Match Play invitational at Green Valley Country Club outside Philadelphia.
