ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team put together a convincing win in their Atlantic 10 opener Friday afternoon, taking down George Washington, 14-7. With the win, the Bonnies have scored three consecutive victories, the longest winning streak for the program since Bona's went 4-0 to start the 2020 season.
Bonaventure graduate goalkeeper
Ashley Herrick was a brick wall in the cage. The Reno, Nevada native posted 11 stops against the Revolutionaries for her fourth game with double-digit saves this season.
After a low-scoring first quarter, Bona (4-3, 1-0 A-10) had a 2-1 advantage. Sophomore
Brooke Piper netted a goal at the 12:31 mark and
Rylee Gonzalez put the Bonnies ahead 2-0 off a pass from
Grace Hollenbeck for her third goal of the season.
A free position goal from
Kassi Hogan just over a minute into the second quarter extended her scoring streak to seven games.
With 11:47 left in the half,
Jessica Notaro scored her first of what would be a four-goal performance.
GW (2-6, 0-1 A-10) scored three straight to knot the game at four before
Megan Schillinger netted her sixth of the year on a free position chance to give the Bonnies a lead they would never relinquish.
With 1:32 remaining in the half, Notaro slipped a behind-the-back shot past the GW keeper to give St. Bonaventure a 6-4 lead at the break.
The Bonnies offense exploded for six goals in the third quarter, going up 12-5 over the Revolutionaries.
Hogan got her second of the day, converting on a pass from
Abby Hiltz. Hiltz then netted her seventh of the year at the 7:56 mark before
Fiona McGovern converted on her free position shot, going 1-of-1 on the day.
As time was winding down in the third, sophomore
Brit Colangelo caused a turnover in the Bonnies defense end, picked up the ground ball, and charged toward the cage. She found Hollenbeck over several GW defenders and Hollenbeck put away her fourth of the year.
In the final frame, McGovern and Hiltz both scored their second goals of the game as the Bonnies put away the Revolutionaries in convincing fashion.
Next up, the Bonnies have a non-conference contest at local rival Canisius in Buffalo on Wednesday.
