Cordeiro's Big Day Not Enough as Bonnies Drop Saturday Baseball Final at SJU

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's evened an Atlantic 10 baseball series with the St. Bonaventure Bonnies by taking a 13-7 victory Saturday afternoon.

The Bonnies captured a 6-4 win in 11 innings in the opener Friday, but the Hawks had the momentum early on Saturday.

Saint Joseph's grabbed a run in the second, then added five in the third for control. Owen Petrich singled in a run, then Ryan Picollo blasted a three-run homer to break the game open for the Hawks.

The Bonnies got two runs back in the fourth following an RBI single from Antonio Cordeiro and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Adam Rankie, but the Hawks immediately responded by playing long ball again, this time as Petrich smacked a three-run blast.

Cordeiro got the Bonnies back in the game with his three-run homer in the fifth to pull within 10-6, but unfortunately for Bona's, Saint Joe's responded with three more in the bottom half of the inning to remain in control.

Bona's freshman catcher Cordeiro matched his career-high with four hits and set a new collegiate best with four RBIs to lead the Bonnies (13-20, 4-7 A-10).

Rankie matched his career-high, and the best by a Bonnies player since 2013, by extending his hitting streak to 17 straight games with a leadoff double to begin the game.

Petrich and Picollo each had four RBIs apiece for Saint Joseph's (15-19, 5-6).

Will McCausland got the win (5.0 IP, 10 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) for the Hawks. Noah Czajkowski started for the Bonnies (3.2 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) while Joel Connors (2.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) and Alex Barger (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R) were solid in relief.

The teams will meet Sunday at 1 p.m. to decide the crucial A-10 series.
