ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure's 2024 recruiting class continues to grow with the signing of guard Jaxon Edwards who has committed to the program after playing last season at Valparaiso.
"Jaxon is a long, athletic scoring wing. He's another guy that really fits our up-tempo style of play well," Bonnies head coach Mark Schmidt said. "Jaxon is a good defender and is an impactful rebounder from the wing position. We are looking forward to having another experienced player in the program for a couple years."
A native of Indianapolis, Edwards saw action in 31 games and made 21 starts for Valpo this past season. He averaged 7.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per contest, adding 40 blocks and 15 steals. He shot over 40 percent from the floor and registered double-figure scoring nine times as well as double-figure rebounds twice with a career-best of 15 boards vs. nationally-ranked Illinois.
Edwards ranked fifth among all Missouri Valley Conference players in blocks per game (1.29) and 15th in offensive rebounds per contest (1.48).
A McDonald's All-America nominee following his senior season of high school at Cathedral High, he helped lead his team to the 2022 Indiana 4A state title while posting nearly 11 points and six boards per game and also shooting just under 41 percent from beyond the arc. Edwards was named to the Indiana All-Star team in his hoops-rich native state and committed to Murray State out of high school. He played in 11 games as a freshman before moving to Valpo.
Edwards joins Chance Moore, Dasonte Bowen and Lajae Jones as transfers with previous Division I experience who have signed to the Bonnies this spring as well as junior college guard Jonah Hinton along with freshman Ebrahim Kaba who committed during the early signing period last fall.
