5/3/2024 10:16:00 AM

ST. BONAVENTURE (15-24, 5-10 A-10) at UMASS (18-23, 8-7 A-10)
Friday – Sunday, May 3-5
Amherst, Mass.

LEADING OFF

  • The St. Bonaventure baseball team is on the road for the next two weekends, first traveling to Massachusetts for a three-game series at the Minutemen this weekend before journeying to Davidson next weekend. The Bonnies wrap up the regular season in the final week vs. Fordham at home.
  • The Bonnies dropped the rubber game of a three-game series with Richmond last weekend. Bona grabbed the Saturday game before falling in the series-deciding contest last Sunday.
  • UMass took two of three at Handler Park last season in the last meeting between the two teams. Each game came down to the wire – UMass won the opener, 7-5, before taking game two, 7-6. The Bonnies grabbed the finale, 7-5.
  • In last year's series, Adam Rankie and Kyle Caccamise had hits in each game – Rankie posted six hits while Caccamise had four hits. Jackson DeJohn posted three hits and three runs while Jack Putney had five hits and four RBIs.

SCHEDULE CHANGE
The Bonnies and Minutemen kick off the series Friday at 3 p.m. on ESPN+

Due to rain in the forecast, the two teams will now play a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m. Those games will not have a webstream available.

RANKIE IN THE RANKS
Adam Rankie enters this weekend leading the team in average (.345), hits (58), doubles (13), triples (2) and RBIs (32). He ranks top-10 in the league in average (eighth), hits (sixth) and doubles (seventh).

Rankie enters this weekend on a 22-game hitting streak, the longest by an Atlantic 10 player this year and the second-longest in Bonaventure history. No Bonnies player in the past three decades has a hitting streak as long and only one player in the program's Division I era has delivered a longer hitting streak – Mike Nayman had a 26-game hitting streak in 1988.

GOLD GLOVE
Bonnies first baseman Morgan Little has been a solid defensive addition for the Bonnies this season at first base. He has a 99 percent fielding percentage with only one error on the season.

MARSHALL MOVES
David Marshall Jr. is the lone Bonaventure player to start every game this season, getting the start in all 39 games at short this year. Entering this weekend, he leads the team with a .393 batting average in Atlantic 10 games. For the entire season, his 17 multi-hit games rank second on the club behind only Rankie's 18.

CIAMPA THE CLOSER
Senior Tristan Ciampa has been the Bonnies' high-leverage reliever this season. He currently leads the team with a 3.44 ERA in Atlantic 10 action while holding opponents to a .230 batting average against.
