WASHINGTON, D.C. – St. Bonaventure placed 278 student-athletes on the 2023-24 Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, conference officials announced Thursday.
That number represents nearly 74 percent of St. Bonaventure's student-athlete population.
Designed to recognize excellence in the classroom, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport at a full member institution must have a combined fall and spring semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the academic year to be selected for the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Both freshmen and graduate students are eligible to receive the award. In each of the last five years, the league honored over 3,500 student-athletes per year.
This year, the league honored a record 4,155 student-athletes across the 15 member institutions.
"Year after year, our student-athletes perform at the highest levels, setting records for Commissioner's Honor Roll in total honorees, topping 4,000 for the first time in league history," stated A-10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. "A commitment to high academics is a hallmark of the Atlantic 10 Conference, and I commend each of our honorees and our member institutions for prioritizing the educational experience and academic success."
Bonnies men's lacrosse had 37 student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, most of any St. Bonaventure team. Baseball landed 29 honor roll selections while women's cross country and track posted 27 and women's lacrosse recorded 26. Other Bonnies leaders included women's soccer (23), men's cross country and track (23), men's soccer (22), women's swimming and diving (21) and softball (20). Women's tennis secured Commissioner's Honor Roll selections for all eight of its team members while golf recorded six selections.
In addition, men's swimming and diving landed 18 on the Commissioner's Honor Roll while men's tennis had four student-athletes earn accolades.
Thirteen St. Bonaventure student-athletes posted perfect 4.0 GPAs while 179 were at 3.5 or higher. The average GPA for Bonnies student-athletes was 3.3.
Despite having the league's smallest enrollment, St. Bonaventure was above the average Atlantic 10 number of 277 student-athletes selected to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
