Golf Places Eighth at First Tournament of Fall Slate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure golf team took an eighth-place finish at the rain-shortened Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational to begin the 2024-25 season Saturday and Sunday at Seven Oaks Golf Course.

The Bonnies posted an opening round 295 on Saturday afternoon after rain forced a delay and the cancellation of the scheduled second 36 holes. On Sunday, the Bonnies came home at 298 for a 593 total (+17), which was one shot clear of Canisius and Binghamton who tied for ninth.

Navy and Seton Hall were the two teams two finish in red figures, each at 3-under par 573 to rank as co-champs of the tournament. Yale (+579), Villanova (581) and host Colgate (587) rounded out the top five while Bucknell and Penn tied for sixth at 588.

Graduate student Peter Byrne was the top-finishing Bonnies individual after matching rounds of 2-over 74. He placed 29th out of 100 competitors in the event.

Junior Gabe Williams had the best round of the weekend by a Bona's golfer as he carded an even-par round of 72 on Saturday before settling for 77 on Sunday to place 33rd on the individual leaderboard. Fellow junior Michael Bucko battled back from a rough start Saturday to shoot 76, improving to 74 in the final round.

Freshman Braddock Damore made his collegiate debut with rounds of 76-74, one shot ahead of junior teammate Caleb Decker (75-76).

Dante Bertoni also made his collegiate debut with an opening round 74 before finishing with a round of 80 on Sunday. Playing as an individual, freshman Andrew Murray recorded a 36-hole score of 161 (80-81).

The Bonnies are off until Tuesday, Sept. 17 when they take on rivals Canisius and Niagara in the renewal of the Little Three Championship at Crag Burn Golf Club in East Aurora.
