The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team will round out its non-conference portion of the 2024 schedule Wednesday evening. The Bonnies are set to host Canisius for a Little Three rivalry match with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. at the Marra Athletics Complex.
GOTTINGER'S RETURN
Chiara Gottinger made her first two appearances this season for the Bonnies last week after missing the first five games of the season due to injury. The senior played the second half in Bona's 2-0 win over YSU and made nine saves in her first start of the season against Syracuse Sunday. The Pirching am Traubenberg, Austria native is fourth all-time in career saves among Bonaventure players with 365. She is also third in career shutouts with 13 and sixth in career games played with 53.
SPREADING THE WEALTH
The Bonnies have five different goal-scorers and eight players with at least one point this season. Freshman
Evie Underhill leads the way in points with a goal and an assist.
Maya Marolly and
Thea Juul became the fourth and fifth goal-scorers of the season for the Bonnies in last Thursday's contest vs. YSU.
WHAT'S AHEAD
Wednesday's match with Canisius will be the final non-conference game of the 2024 season for St. Bonaventure and the Bonnies will be off for a week before A-10 play gets underway.
Bona opens Atlantic 10 Conference play at George Washington next Thursday, Sept. 19 at 3:00 p.m. The following Sunday, Massachusetts makes its way to the Marra Athletics Complex for the Bonnies' first A-10 game at home. SBU will hold Senior Day celebrations prior to kickoff Sunday, Sept. 22.
SERIES HISTORY
The Griffins lead the all-time series 22-14-5 since 1981 and have owned the advantage in the last 10 meetings, 4-2-4—however, St. Bonaventure has controlled the series on home turf with an 11-8-3 record.
In last year's meeting, Canisius earned a 2-0 victory over the Bonnies in Buffalo.
ABOUT CANISIUS
The Griffins enter Wednesday's match with a 2-1-1 record, tallying wins over Binghamton and Merrimack. The Bonnies and the Griffins have played three common opponents in Binghamton, Youngstown State, and Buffalo.
Canisius was selected to finish third in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll after finishing with a 6-2-2 conference record in 2023.
