Bonnies Travel South To Take On George Mason Sunday

The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team heads back out on the road for the third time in its last four contests to take on George Mason Sunday, Jan. 5. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Va.

TIPPING OFF
The Bonnies look to snap a three-game losing skid after falling to Rhode Island, 82-48, Thursday evening at the Reilly Center.

Freshman Zoe Shaw paced the Bonnies with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including a career-high five threes in 35 minutes.

The Rams jumped out to an early 12-2 lead with an 8-0 run to begin the game before the Bonnies used a 6-0 spurt of the their own to make it a 16-9 game at the end of the first.

URI opened up a double digit lead in the second quarter with 13 unanswered points and maintained its lead to the end.

SHAW SETTLING IN
Melbourne, Australia native Zoe Shaw has started to find her groove over the last four games, averaging 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 44.4 percent from beyond the arc in 36.2 minutes per game.

She has scored in double figures in all four games, including two contests with 17 points and was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Dec. 23.

For the year, Shaw is averaging 8.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.

FRESHMEN FINDING MINUTES
The Bonnies are one of three teams in the NCAA with six freshmen averaging at least 10.0 minutes per game this season, joining Chicago State and Evansville.

Zoe Shaw leads all Bonnies freshmen with 32.7 minutes per game while Mackenzie Pettinelli sits at 24.5 minutes per contest. Caitlin Frost averages 23.9 minutes for the Brown and White.

Lena Walz plays 17.3 minutes per contest, Hannah Richardson averages 12.0 minutes while Macy Smith sits at 10.2 minutes per game.

SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS

  • George Mason enters Sunday's contest 11-2 overall and 1-1 in Atlantic 10 play, falling to Saint Joseph's, 61-55, Thursday evening. The Patriots earned four votes in this week's USA Today Coaches Poll. GMU picked up a marquee win over Wake Forest, 50-41, Nov. 20. The Patriots only non-conference loss this season was, 66-56, vs. Maryland on a neutral court at the Navy Classic.
  • The Patriots finished last season 23-8 overall and 14-4 in Atlantic 10 play, earning a berth in the WBIT where they fell to Penn State, 84-80. George Mason was picked to finish third in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.
  • Vanessa Blair-Lewis is in her fourth season at the helm of George Mason women's basketball, holding a 60-44 record in Fairfax. Blair-Lewis has over 25 seasons of head coaching experience, spending nine seasons at Mount St. Mary's and 12 years at Bethune-Cookman. She has amassed a 376-346 career head coaching record.
  • Kennedy Harris paces the Patriots in scoring, averaging 15.1 points in a team-best 30.8 minutes per game. Zahirah Walton also averages double figures for GMU, scoring 11.8 points to go along with 6.4 rebounds per contest. Nalani Kayasia averages a near double-double, posting 9.6 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.

SERIES HISTORY
Sunday marks the 16th all-time meeting between the Bonnies and the Patriots. George Mason holds a slight edge in the all-time series, 8-7, and has won three straight matchups against the Bonnies.

Bona's won five straight games over the Patriots from 2019-22 and is 3-5 all-time at EagleBank Arena. Bonnies head coach Jim Crowley is 2-2 all-time against the Patriots.
