HOPKINTON, N.H. - St. Bonaventure freshman Jillian Lozo paced the Bonnies women's cross country team on a chilly Friday morning in the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship.
Lozo ran the 6K loop layout at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds in a mark of 22:55.2. She finished the season in the way she ran her entire collegiate debut campaign, by leading the Bonnies. In the regional field of 41 teams and over 250 competitors, Lozo came across the finish line in 198th spot.
Second in line for the Bona squad was sophomore Miranda Habshi who posted a great improvement over her freshman season regional run on the same course. Habshi clocked in 23:24.8 which stands as a nearly 30-second improvement over her 2024 NCAA Regional run. Habshi also moved up 20 spots in the finishing order to 220th.
Bona's other regional championship qualifiers were junior Elise Brooks (23:28.6) and seniors Molly Gipson (23:45.8) and Claire Cuneo (24:28.0) who each competed in the final cross country meet of their four-year Bonaventure careers. Brooks recorded a new PR time, jumping into the program's top-20 with her season-ending effort.
QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH BOB MACFARLANE
"The lady harriers were led once again by freshman standout Jillian Lozo, who finished first for the team in every meet this fall. Jillian has shown remarkable poise for a first-year runner and continues to set the standard for our young squad. Sophomore Miranda Habshi is also beginning to uncover her potential as a very strong distance runner, and it's been exciting to watch her growth throughout the season.
"Today also marked the final collegiate cross country race for our two senior women. Senior captain Molly Gipson has been the glue that held this young group together—her leadership has been invaluable. She graduates leaving her mark on the program, sitting 19th on our all-time 6K record board. Senior Claire Cuneo has been a joy to coach during her time at Bona's. She departs ranked eighth in school history in the 6K, a testament to her commitment and steady improvement. Though she won't compete this spring as she prepares to study abroad in Spain, she will certainly be missed.
"This group continues to build something special, and our seniors have played a tremendous role in laying that foundation."
