ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure Athletics will retire men's basketball great Glenn Hagan's No. 23 in a special ceremony Saturday, Jan. 10 as part of a celebration around that afternoon's Bonnies game vs. Fordham.

The point guard of the 1977 NIT Championship team, Hagan established the career assists record for the program with 486 (4.7 apg), a total that still ranks fifth today. An all-around player, he finished his career with 1,396 points which ranks 21st all-time.

"Glenn Hagan remains one of the most dynamic players in the storied history of St. Bonaventure Basketball. An inductee into the St. Bonaventure Athletics Hall of Fame, and a member of the Bonnies' All-Time Team, he epitomized excellence, leadership, and service during his time in the Brown and White," said St. Bonaventure Vice President & Director of Athletics Bob Beretta.

"We are thrilled for his jersey number 23 to take its rightful place along with our other program greats in the Reilly Center rafters. It's a fitting tribute to a man who brought so much joy to so many throughout his incredible career as a Bonnie."

A guard who won over fans with his dramatic flair, Hagan helped clinch the 1977 NIT Championship with clutch efforts in the postseason: He knocked in the game-winning shot for a thrilling triumph over Rutgers, finishing with 26 points. Hagan also posted 13 points in a win over Oregon as well as 14 points in the championship game victory vs. Houston. The following season in the NCAA Tournament, he poured in 19 points vs. Penn.

He was named to the St. Bonaventure Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992. In Bona's Centennial Season, he was selected as a member of the Bonnies All-Time Team.

A product of Rochester, Hagan was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1978 and later became an all-star with the Rochester Zeniths of the Continental Basketball Association, winning two CBA championships before playing with the Detroit Pistons in the NBA during the 1981-82 season.

Hagan is set to join Bob Lanier '70 (No. 31), Ken Murray '51 (No. 13), Tom Stith '61 (No. 42), Sam Stith '60 (No. 22), Ronald Martin '61 (No. 34), Fred Crawford '64 (No. 54), Bill Butler '68 (No. 14), Greg Sanders '78 (No. 53), Essie Hollis '77 (No. 25), Earl Belcher '81 (No. 25) and Andrew Nicholson '12 (No. 44) to have jerseys retired in The RC. In addition, Bill Kenville '53 also has his No. 20 as an honored jersey in the arena.
