With the 2025-26 National Lacrosse League season in full swing, St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse is strongly represented in the professional landscape with five alums currently rostered.

Dobson pro update georgia swarm
Brett Dobson, '22 has become one of the top goalkeepers in the league for the Georgia Swarm, making 39 saves in the team's season opener this year against the Buffalo Bandits in a return to Western New York. Selected in the first round of the 2022 NLL Draft with the 11th pick, he saved 654 shots in 18 games played last season, compiling roughly a 76 percent save percentage.

A gold medalist with Team Canada at the 2022 World Games Championship, Dobson has also found success in field lacrosse with the Utah Archers of the Premier Lacrosse League. He helped the Archers to back-to-back championships in 2023 and 2024, winning MVP in both title games. He made 18 saves with a 58 percent save percentage in the 2023 final to help beat the Philadelphia Waterdogs, 15-14, following up that performance in the 2024 championship and beating the Maryland Whipsnakes, 12-8, with 17 saves for a 68 percent success rate.

In his senior year as a Bonnie, Dobson was named the 2022 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and was a consensus All-American after leading the nation in save percentage (66.5 percent), also ranking second in the country in saves per game (16.8) and sixth in average goals allowed (8.9). He led the Brown and White to an appearance in the MAAC title game that season as the team's cornerstone on defense. The Oshawa, Ontario native also led the nation in save percentage as a junior (59.9 percent) while ranking fifth in average goals allowed (9.1) and seventh in saves per game (13.6).

Dobson ended his time at St. Bonaventure as the program leader in career saves (569) and save percentage (60.1 percent).

westley desert dogs
Sean Westley, '22, '23 has found success of his own at the professional level as a forward for the Las Vegas Desert Dogs after being selected with the 26th overall pick in the second round of the 2022 draft. Recently earning distinction as one of Inside Lacrosse's "10 Breakout Players for the 2026 NLL Season," Westley will see his first action of the season when the Desert Dogs open their season on Dec. 13 against the Vancouver Warriors.

Westley appeared in seven games during the 2024-25 NLL campaign, recording 11 points (6G-5A) and three caused turnovers. The prior season, he saw action in 14 contests, tallying 23 points (10G-13A) and three caused turnovers.

Westley ended his Bonaventure career as the all-time leader in points (156), goals (93), assists (63) and games played (58). In 2022, he was named the MAAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year and a First Team All-Conference selection, also providing a steady helping hand in the Bonnies' run to the MAAC title game. The Whitby, Ontario native led the conference in points (56) and assists (26) that season, setting single-season program records. He never missed a game in five seasons with the team.

belter bandits pro update
Zack Belter, '22, '23 has stuck around in Western New York, playing for his hometown Buffalo Bandits after hearing his name called as the 19th overall pick in the first round of the 2022 draft. The defenseman appeared in 14 games last season, tallying two assists, 15 groundballs, nine caused turnovers and eight blocked shots as part of the NLL champs. Though he is currently sidelined by injury, the Wheatfield, N.Y. native will look to make an impact in the Bandits' defensive rotation once he is healthy.

In his time at St. Bonaventure, Belter was named a MAAC First Team All-Conference selection in 2022, earning a spot on the second team in 2021. In his final season as a graduate student, he started all 14 games and led the team in caused turnovers (14) and groundballs (20). He finished his Bonnies career as the all-time program leader in caused turnovers (62), also ranking second in groundballs (93) and third in games played (50).

Blumbergs pro update Halifax Thunderbirds
The next Bona alum at the professional level is Austin Blumbergs, '22, '23  who was selected by the Bandits with the 88th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2022 draft. The Penn Yan, N.Y. native currently holds a spot on the Halifax Thunderbirds practice roster. He appeared in one game for the team last year during his rookie season, registering four loose balls and a shot on goal. He signed with Halifax in the previous off-season and made the team's practice roster out of training camp. The Halifax season opener comes on Dec. 5 against the Oshawa Firewolves. In October, Blumbergs signed a three-year extension with the club.

A standout across a five-year Bonnies career, Blumbergs collected multiple conference honors including three MAAC All-Academic selections (2020-2022), a First Team All-Conference designation in 2021, a Second Team All-Conference selection in 2022 and an All-Rookie Team nomination in 2019.
