Bonnies Come Up Short at Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team dropped a 55-37 decision on the road against Davidson Sunday afternoon.

Dani Haskell paced the Bonnies with 10 points while Zoe Shaw chipped in nine points for the Brown and White. Caitlin Frost posted eight points and Gabby Robinson Forde added six points and a team-high six rebounds.

The Bonnies fell behind the Wildcats, 9-2, early in the first.

Haskell made her first 3-pointer of the game with 5:31 on the clock, sparking an 8-0 run that gave the Bonnies their first lead of the day, 12-9.

The two teams traded threes to end the first as the Bonnies had the edge, 15-14.

The Wildcats retook the lead in the second, starting the quarter with a 9-0 spurt of their own, taking a 23-15 advantage.

The hosts maintained their eight-point lead heading into halftime, 28-20.

Frost started the scoring in the second half, but the Wildcats scored the next 14 points, taking their biggest lead of the game, 42-22.

The Bonnies outscored Davidson 7-2 over the final 1:37 of the third, cutting the deficit to 44-29.

Frost's jumper to open the fourth quarter scoring cut the deficit down to 13, but that is as close as the Bonnies would get as the Wildcats hung on to their double-digit advantage, earning the victory.

Davidson's Katie Donovan finished with 16 points to lead all scorers.

GAME NOTES

·       The Bonnies finished the game shooting 27.5 percent (14-for-51) from the floor while Davidson shot 42.9 percent (21-for-49) from the field.

·       Davidson outrebounded the Bonnies, 38-30.

·       Freshman Lena Walz returned to the court for the first time since Jan. 5 against George Mason, playing nine minutes off the bench.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH JIM CROWLEY
"I thought our defensive effort was solid today. Obviously, this is a very good team that scored over 80 on us last time so I am pleased with that. Our offense stalled at times and I thought we ran some things that we wanted to run and couldn't get the ball to drop."

"We were making shots in the first quarter. Then in the second we had a couple of defensive breakdowns and then we were missing shots. That's a tough combination. I was pleased because we had a similar case last week against GW, but we lost our defensive intensity and that was something that didn't happen today."

UP NEXT
The Bonnies return home to host VCU Wednesday, Feb. 19. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. at the Reilly Center.
