Bonnies Earn Doubleheader Split to Kick Off 2025

HAMPTON, Va. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team bounced back from a game one loss to win game two, 4-1, to earn a doubleheader split with Hampton to begin the 2025 campaign.

The Bonnies dropped a nailbiter in game one, falling to the Pirates, 8-7, in eight innings before rebounding for the win in game two.

Kymora Wang collected four hits on the day, including a double, a triple and a grand slam to go along with five RBIs.

Game 1 – Hampton 8, St. Bonaventure 7 – 8 Innings
The Bonnies (1-1) trailed the Pirates, 6-1, heading in to the top of the seventh inning.

Kendall Stull started the rally with, scoring on an error from third.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Kymora Wang belted a grand slam to left field, tying the game, 6-6.

In the circle in relief, Stull shut down the Pirates in order in the bottom of the seventh, sending the gam to extra innings.

The Bonnies retook the lead in the top of the eighth on an RBI groundout from Stull, scoring Mackenzie Frani.

Hampton, however, put runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the eighth.

Kylie Hill reached on an error, scoring both runners and walking off game with an 8-7 win.

The Bonnies were able to take a first inning lead Sunday.

Karena Recrosio singled and stole second before Wang singled her over to third.

Wang was caught stealing at second, but Recrosio was able to run home, giving the Bonnies a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom half of the first, Hampton led off with a triple.

Bonnies starter Nolah Moyer was able to get out the jam, however, fanning the next three batters.

Bona's loaded the bases in the top of the second, but were unable to extend the lead.

Hampton was able to take its first lead of the game in the bottom of the second, scoring three runs on a single and a double.

The Pirates added a three insurance runs in the bottom of the third, making it a 6-1 ballgame.

Moyer tossed 2.1 innings in her first collegiate start, striking out four. Stull worked 5.0 innings in relief, allowing two runs and fanning three.

Game 2 – St. Bonaventure 4, Hampton 1
Reanna Perkins drove in the first run of game two on a fielder's choice to give the Bonnies the early lead in the top of the second.

The Bonnies tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the third.

Sydney DeGram drove in the inning's first run with a single up the middle and Wang drove her in on the next at-bat with an RBI triple to right field.

Two batters later, Perkins scored Wang from third with a single through the right side, pushing the Bonnies lead to 4-0.

The Pirates (5-5) pulled one back in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single, but that is all the closer they would get as Stull allowed just one baserunner the rest of the way.

Mackenzie Frani earned the first win of her collegiate career, tossing 4.0 innings and allowing just one run while striking out five.

Stull pitched 2.0 innings in relief, earning her first save of the season.

The Bonnies remain in Virginia for a doubleheader against Norfolk State Monday, Feb. 24 starting at 12:00 p.m.
