Bonnies Sweep Doubleheader at Norfolk State

NORFOLK, Va. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team ended its trip to Virginia in style, picking up a pair of wins over Norfolk State Monday afternoon.

The Bonnies grabbed game one, 3-2, before capturing game two, 4-0.

Game 1 – St. Bonaventure 3, Norfolk State 2
The Bonnies grabbed the early lead in game one with an RBI groundout off the bat of Eleanor Park in the top of the second inning.

Kendall Stull gave the Bonnies a three-run lead in the top of the sixth with a two-run double, scoring Sawyer Burke and Sydney DeGram.

The Spartans pulled two back in the bottom half of the sixth with a two-run double of their own.

Norfolk State was able to load the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Stull was able to work out of the jam, earning her second save of the season.

Nolah Moyer got the start in game one, capturing her first collegiate win, working 5.2 innings with five strikeouts and allowing just four hits.

Freshman Abigail Ahern picked up a pair of hits in the win, including a double.

Game 2 – St. Bonaventure 4, Norfolk State
The Bonnies jumped ahead in the top of the second when Ahern came around to score on a Norfolk State throwing error.

Bona's pushed its lead to 4-0 in the top of the third when Mackenzie Frani doubled to left-center field, scoring a pair before coming around to score herself on the play by way of an error.

That would be enough as Frani went the distance in the circle, picking up her second win of the season and the first shutout of her career. She allowed just five hits and fanned seven.

The Bonnies are back in action Friday, Feb. 28 when they travel to the Coach Cooke Memorial Invitational at Winthrop.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH MIKE THREEHOUSE
"They came out to win today and it showed on the field. They are starting to feel what it is like to win, and the energy has been electrifying."
