Youngstown State struck first in the top of the first and never looked back in game one Friday.
The Penguins got their first lead by way of an RBI single off the bat of Ayla Ray.
YSU plated five runs in the top of the second on a single, a triple and a home run, pushing the lead to 6-0.
The Penguins (1-10) added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the four, making it an eight-run game.
The Bonnies pulled one back in the bottom of the fourth when Kendall Stull doubled home Karena Recrosio.
Bona's cut the deficit to five in the bottom of the sixth on a Kymora Wang fielder's choice and an Angelia Recrosio RBI single.
That is as close as the Bonnies would get as the Penguins closed out the seventh, earning the win.
Mackenzie Frani got the ball in game one, working 3.1 innings and striking out four. Jayden Szkatulski, Ava Lomelin and Kylie Bickert pitched in relief for the Brown and White.
Game 2 – USC Upstate 8, St. Bonaventure 5

Bona's retook the lead in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bickert.
USC Upstate (16-2) responded with five runs in the bottom of the second, taking a commanding 6-2 lead.
The Spartans plated two more runs in the third to take a six-run lead.
The Bonnies looked to rally in the seventh when Abigail Ahern scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit down to five.
A few batters later, Wang singled home Victoria Jacques and Recrosio, pulling the Bonnies within three.
USC Upstate, however, closed out the game, retiring the next two batters and getting a double play to earn the win.
The Bonnies are back on the field Saturday afternoon when they take on Southern Indiana at 12:30 p.m.
