ROCK HILL, S.C. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team wrapped up play at the Coach Cooke Memorial Tournament hosted by Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C.
The Bonnies dropped a pair of games Saturday to Southern Indiana, 8-3, and Winthrop, 10-2. Bona's fell in the finale Sunday morning to Marist, 9-0.
Southern Indiana 8, St. Bonaventure 3
The Screaming Eagles scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back.
Southern Indiana added a pair of insurance runs on a walk and a sacrifice fly, taking a 4-0 lead.
An RBI single and a two-run triple from the Screaming Eagles made it a 7-0 ball game after the third inning.
The Bonnies, however, looked to start a rally in the bottom of the fourth when Kylie Bickert tripled, scoring Kendall Stull and Kymora Wang.
Southern Indiana would tack on one more in the top of the sixth, pushing its lead back to six, 8-2.
Courtnee Peterson singles home Wang in the bottom of the sixth, but Southern Indiana hung on to earn the win.
In the circle, Bickert fanned three in four innings of relief work.
Winthrop 10, St. Bonaventure 2 – Five Innings
The Eagles plated two in the bottom of the first when Katie Beck belted a home run to centerfield.
Winthrop used a four-run second inning to take a commanding lead. The Eagles opened the scoring in the inning on a run-scoring fielder's choice and an error. Winthrop then went back-to-back with a two-run home run from Emma Jackson and a solo home run off the bat of Megan Powell.
The hosts tacked on three insurance runs in the bottom of the third on a pair of singles, pushing the lead to 9-0.
The Bonnies pulled two back in the top of the fourth when Stull singled home Sydney DeGram and Wang scored on a double play.
Beck, however, pushed the lead back to eight when Beck hit her second home run of the contest.
Mackenzie Frani struck out a pair and Ava Lomelin pitched 1.1 innings in relief for the Brown and White.
Marist 9, St. Bonaventure 0 – Five Innings
Marist opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom half of the first by way of a double, a single and a walk.
The Red Foxes pushed their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run off the bat of Miah McDonald.
Haley Ahr capped off the scoring for Marist in the bottom of the third with a grand slam to left-center field.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, March 8 when they travel to East Tennessee State for four games against ETSU, Mercyhurst and Marist.
