Bonnies Second-Half Rally Falls Short Against GW

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y.- The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to George Washington, 58-49, Saturday afternoon at the Reilly Center.

Hannah Richardson led the Bonnies with 13 points on 5-of-13 shooting to go along with three rebounds. Zoe Shaw finished with 13 points, while Caitlin Frost recorded nine points and eight rebounds.

The Bonnies (5-19, 1-12 A-10) narrowly led after the first quarter, 12-11.

However, the Revolutionaries (10-13, 3-9 A-10) regained with a 17-0 run over the first six minutes of the second quarter.

GW kept the pressure on in the second quarter, taking a 32-17 lead into halftime.

The Bonnies looked to flip the script in the second half.

The Brown and White outscored the Revolutionaries, 15-6, over a seven-minute stretch which was capped off by a Richardson 3-pointer, pulling the Bonnies back within nine, 41-32.

A pair of GW free throws to open the final period pushed the Revolutionaries lead back to double digits, 45-32.

The two sides traded scores down the stretch as the Bonnies were able to cut the deficit to seven with 17 seconds left.

GW made two free throws at the line, securing the road win.

Makayla Andrews recorded a game-high 15 points for the Revolutionaries to pair with nine rebounds and three assists.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH JIM CROWLEY
"The obvious thing is a bad second quarter. We've seen it before where our frustration takes over so we rush some offensive things. Then that puts pressure on our defense and this little snowball becomes an avalanche. It's something as coaches we must do a better job with."

"We certainly saw some positive things. We created some more opportunities for ourselves in the second half. We created a lot of turnovers; however, we didn't get as many scores as I would have liked to in the second half and we needed them. They are kind of right there and we have got to put it all together."

UP NEXT
The Bonnies are off until next Saturday when they travel south to take on Davidson. Tipoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. in North Carolina.
