Bonnies Softball Wraps Weekend Play at Buccaneer Softball Classic

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team wrapped up action at the Buccaneer Softball Classic hosted by East Tennessee State Sunday afternoon.

The Bonnies got action started Saturday with a pair of contests against Marist and Mercyhurst. The Red Foxes got the better of the Bonnies, 10-0, in game one, but the Bonnies bounced back for a 14-6 win over Mercyhurst in the nightcap.

Bona's fell to Marist Sunday morning, 10-1, before dropping the finale to host ETSU, 3-1.

GAME 1: Marist 10, St. Bonaventure 0 (F/5)
The Red Foxes grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a pair of sacrifice flies and never looked back Saturday.

Marist extended its lead to 6-0 in the second with a grand slam off the bat of Maddie Pleasants.

Peyton Pusey belted a three-run double in the third and Pleasants belted a solo home run in the fourth, putting the game out of reach for good, 10-0.

Kylie Bickert and Karena Recrosio collected hits for the Bonnies.

GAME 2: St. Bonaventure 14, Mercyhurst 6
Abigail Ahern started the scoring in game two for the Bonnies, scoring Recrosio with an RBI single to right field.

The Bonnies tacked on a second run in the top of the first with an RBI ground from Kymora Wang.

Bona's opened the game up in the top of the second, plating six in the inning.

Recrosio drove in two on a triple, scoring Sydney DeGram and Victoria Jacques. Recrosio would come around to score two batters later when Wang reached on an error, pushing the Bonnies lead to 5-0.

Kendall Stull capped off the scoring with a three-run home run to left-center field.

The Bonnies got an insurance run in the third when Stull reach on an error, allowing Ahern to come home and giving the Bonnies a 9-0 advantage.

The Lakers pulled one back in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI triple down to right field.

The Bonnies, however, answered with two runs from a Stull single in the top of the fifth, extending Bona's lead to 11-1.

Mercyhurst looked to rally in the bottom of the fifth when Natasha McLellan-Tam doubled home a pair to make it an 11-3 contest.

Jazlynn Sanders scored McLellan-Tam with a double of her own in the next at-bat. Up next was Emelie Pascual who singled home Sander, making the score 11-5 in favor of the Bonnies.

Stull and Kylie Bickert combined to drive in three runs for the Bonnies in the top of the seventh to push the lead back to nine.

Mercyhurst made one last rally attempt in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single, but that is as close as they would get as Stull closed the door in the circle.

Mackenzie Frani pitch 4.1 innings for the Bonnies, striking out three. Stull worked the final 2.2 innings and fanned a pair.

GAME 3: Marist 10, St. Bonaventure 1 (F/5)
Miah McDonald belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, giving the Red Foxes the early advantage.

A pair of run-scoring singles in the bottom of the second extended the Marist lead to 4-0.

Kymora Wang pulled one back for the Bonnies in the top of the third with an RBI double to left-center field.

The Red Foxes, however, scored four in the bottom half of the third on a single, a home run and a passed ball, taking an 8-1 lead.

An RBI single and an RBI groundout capped off the scoring for Marist, earning the 10-1 win.

GAME 4: East Tennessee State 3, St. Bonaventure 1
The Bonnies jumped ahead first in the finale Sunday when Victoria Jacques singled home Eleanor Park in the bottom of the second.

The Buccaneers, however, took their first lead of the day in the top of the fourth, plating three on a home run off the bat of Tiare Rieger.

ETSU would allow just two base runners the rest of the way, capturing the win.

Stull went the distance for the Bonnies, striking out four.

The Bonnies are set to begin Atlantic 10 play Saturday, March 15 when they travel to take on George Washington in a three-game series.
