Bonnies Tripped Up at Canisius

BUFFALO – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell to Canisius, 16-8, in non-conference action on the road Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Griffins struck first in the bottom of the first, scoring a pair of runs on an error and a sacrifice fly.

The Bonnies, however, erupted for six runs in the top of the second, taking their first lead of the day.

Victoria Jacques started the scoring when she worked a bases loaded walk with no outs. Two batters later, Karena Recrosio slapped a single up the middle, tying the game at 2-2.

Up next was Abigail Ahern who blooped a single over the first baseman's head, scoring a pair and giving the visitors a two-run lead.

Kendall Stull singled home the Bonnies fifth run of the inning two batters later before Eleanor Park capped off the scoring with a sacrifice fly, pushing the Bonnies lead to four.

The Griffs pulled one back in the bottom of the second with an RBI groundout.

Bona's added a pair of insurance runs on a Kymora Wang single in the top of the third, giving the Bonnies am 8-3 lead.

Canisius was able to retake the lead with a seven-run bottom half of the third.

The Griffs got their first run of the inning on an error before Emily Ilano doubled home a pair to make it 8-6 in favor of the Bonnies.

Canisius cut it to a one-run game on a hit by pitch during the next at-bat and tied the game on a passed ball. The Griffs grabbed retook the lead on a wild pitch and extended the lead to two when Gabi Ferris stole home, giving the hosts a 10-8 advantage.

The Golden Griffins extended their lead to seven in the fourth on a pair of singles and a double before ending the game with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, capturing a 16-8 win.

UP NEXT
The Bonnies return home to make their 2025 debut at Joyce Field Saturday, March 22 when they host George Mason for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
