ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped the series opener to George Mason, 10-2, Saturday afternoon at Joyce Field.
The Patriots (11-17, 3-1 A-10) got on the board first with an RBI double off the bat of Logan Pickford in the top of the first.
The Bonnies (4-14, 0-4 A-10) were quick to answer as Kymora Wang drove in Karena Recrosio with an RBI single in the bottom half of the first.
George Mason took a 4-1 lead in the second, scoring on a walk, a groundout and a wild pitch.
The Patriots tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly and an error, taking a five-run advantage.
The visitors took a six-run lead in the fourth before pushing the lead to 10-1 in the top of the fifth with a single and a sacrifice fly.
The Bonnies looked to rally as Kendall Stull reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Abigail Ahern to come home but it was not enough as George Mason retired the side to earn the win.
Wang finished with a pair of singles while Recrosio added a double for the Bonnies.
