Patriots Sweep Sunday Doubleheader from Bonnies

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped a pair of Atlantic 10 contests Sunday morning at Joyce Field.

The Bonnies dropped game one, 8-4, before falling in game two, 10-3.

Victoria Jacques collected five hits on the day for the Brown and White.

GAME 1 – George Mason 8, St. Bonaventure 4
The Patriots (13-17, 5-1 A-10) jumped out to a five-run lead through the two and half innings, scoring three in the second and adding a pair of insurance runs in the third.

The Bonnies (4-16, 0-6 A-10), however, were able to pull one back in the bottom half of the third when Kendall Stull doubled home Kymora Wang from first, making it a 5-1 game.

Bona's cut it to a three-run game in the fourth when Victoria Jacques tripled, scoring Ava Lomelin from first.

The Brown and White tacked on a second run in the fourth on a Recrosio sacrifice fly, bringing the Bonnies within two, 5-3.

George Mason pushed its lead back to three in the top of the fifth, scoring on an error.

Bona's looked to rally in the sixth with the bases loaded when Wang singled home Jacques from third.

George Mason, however, worked out of the jam, taking a 6-4 lead into the final frame.

The visitors tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the seventh on a pair of singles, taking a four-run advantage they would not see slip away.

Nolah Moyer and Stull pitched for the Bonnies, combining to strikeout six.

GAME 2 – George Mason 10, St. Bonaventure 3
The Bonnies were able to jump ahead in the first inning of game two when Eleanor Park singled home the game's opening run.

The Patriots were quick to tie the game with an RBI triple in the top of the second.

Bona's answered with a pair of runs on a two-RBI triple off the bat of Wang.

George Mason retook the lead in the top of the third, scoring on a pair of hits and never relinquished the lead again.

A home run and double in the fifth put the Patriots up, 6-3, and an error in the sixth pushed across the team's seventh run of the game.

The Patriots put the game out of reach for good in the top of the seventh with a two-run home run and an RBI single.

QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH MIKE THREEHOUSE
"We have to find ways to change the game when opportunities present themselves. Once we start putting pressure on the opponent, we will have success."

UP NEXT
The Bonnies head back out on the road for a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday, March 25 at Mercyhurst. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
