Box Score 2 ERIE, Pa. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader on the road at Mercyhurst Thursday afternoon.
The Lakers fought off a pair of seventh-inning rallies from the Bonnies, taking game one, 3-2, before completing the sweep in game two, 6-5.
GAME 1 – Mercyhurst 3, St. Bonaventure 2
The Bonnies (4-18) grabbed the lead in the top of the third when Kymora Wang doubled home Victoria Jacques from second and giving the Bonnies a 1-0 lead.
The Lakers (2-16), however, were quick to tie it in the bottom half of the third, plating their first run on an RBI single.
Bona's was threatening to push across the go-ahead run in the top of the fourth following a single from Nolah Moyer and a double from Mackenzie Frani, putting runners on second and third.
Mercyhurst starter Bailey Cannon was able to work out the jam, keeping the game tied at 1-1.
The Lakers were able to load the bases with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, but Frani got out of the inning without allowing the go-ahead run.
The hosts took their first lead of the contest in the bottom of the sixth when Lauren Henrich crossed home on an error. The Lakers tacked on a second run in the inning a few batters later on a passed ball, taking a 3-1 lead.
The Bonnies looked to rally in the seventh.
Frani singled with one out and Sawyer Burke was subbed on to run the bases. Lauren Dundon stepped up and drove Burke home with an RBI double to left-center field, making it a 3-2 ballgame.
The Lakers, however, would work out of the inning, earning the victory.
Frani went the distance in the circle for the Brown and White, striking out five.
GAME 2 – Mercyhurst 6, St. Bonaventure 5
Bona's was able to take the lead in game two in the top of the first, plating a pair on an error and a Kendall Stull RBI single.
The Bonnies made it a three-run game in the second when Courtnee Peterson scored from third on a wild pitch.
The Lakers pulled one back in the bottom of the third on a solo home run off the bat of Jazlynn Sanders.
Mercyhurst tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth when Eliza Reynolds doubled to score a pair. Two batters later, the Lakers took their first lead in game with an RBI single from Mackenzie Gillis.
The hosts pushed their lead to 5-3 in the inning on a hit by pitch.
Mercyhurst added an insurance run in the bottom half of the fifth, extending its lead to 6-3.
The Bonnies pulled one back in the top of the sixth when Dundon doubled home Stull from second. Bona's brought it within one with a two-out bases loaded walk from Recrosio.
Stull doubled in the top of the seventh to put runners on second and third with no outs. A few batters later, Jordan Lucas worked a two-out walk to load the bases.
Mercyhurst, however, was able to get out of the jam, capturing the doubleheader sweep.

The Bonnies travel the Big Apple to for a three-game series at Fordham, beginning Saturday, March 29 with a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
