Bonnies Split Monday Doubleheader at Massachusetts

AMHERST, Mass. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team split an Atlantic 10 doubleheader Monday afternoon on the road at Massachusetts.

The Bonnies grabbed game one from the Minutewomen, 4-3, but fell in game two, 4-1.

GAME 1 – St. Bonaventure 4, Massachusetts 3
The Bonnies took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI single off the bat of Kendall Stull.

The Minutewomen, however, answered with a pair of runs on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single in the bottom half of the first, taking a 2-1 lead.

The Bonnies were quick to tie it with an RBI single from Nolah Moyer in the third.

UMass took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third when Riain Keefe reached on an error.

Bona's continued to battle back as they retook the lead in the fourth when Abigail Ahern belted the first home run of her career, scoring two and putting the Bonnies ahead, 4-3.

UMass was able to put the go-ahead run on first with two outs in the seventh inning, but Stull was able to work out of the jam and earn the save.

Ava Lomelin got the start in the circle, picking up the first win of her career and scattering seven hits in 4.1 innings of work. Stull allowed just two hits in 2.2 innings in relief.

Karena Recrosio and Kymora Wang registered a pair of hits for the Brown and White.

GAME 2 – Massachusetts 4, St. Bonaventure 1
The Minutewomen broke through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, scoring the game's opening run on an RBI single and taking a 1-0 lead.

UMass extended the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth, plating a pair on a fielder's choice.

The Bonnies cut the deficit to two when Stull singled home Victoria Jacques from third in the top of the sixth.

Bona's was able to load the bases later in the sixth but were unable to cut into the UMass lead.

The Minutewomen pushed their lead back to three in the bottom half of the sixth, scoring on an RBI single.

Mackenzie Frani went the distance for the Brown and White in the circle, striking out four and allowing just two earned runs.

UP NEXT
The Bonnies return home to host Mercyhurst Wednesday, April 16 for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. at Joyce Field.
