ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team captured a pair of wins over Rhode Island at Joyce Field Friday afternoon.
The Bonnies held on to win game one, 3-2, before taking the night cap, 5-1.
GAME 1 – St. Bonaventure 3, Rhode Island 2
The Rams took the first lead of the day, scoring on an error in the top of the first.
The Bonnies battled back in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 3-1 lead.
Kendall Stull started the scoring after reaching on an error that allowed Victoria Jacques to come around and score to tie the game 1-1.
Nolah Moyer singled Stull home during the next at-bat before Lauren Dundon doubled home pinch runner Sydney DeGram, giving the Bonnies the two run advantage.
Rhode Island pulled one back in the top of the fifth on a passed ball.
The one-run lead was enough for Stull, however, who did not allow a hit over the final three innings, earning her fourth save of the season.
Ava Lomelin earned her second win of the season, allowing just one earned run.
GAME 2 – St. Bonaventure 5, Rhode Island 1
The Bonnies took the early lead in game two when Stull reached on an error that allowed Karena Recrosio to score from third.
Bona's tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the third when Moyer singled home Jacques.
The Brown and White took control of the game in the fourth, scoring three to take a 5-0 lead.
Recrosio opened the frame with an RBI single and Jacques followed her with an RBI double. Stull capped off the scoring when she brought home Jacques on an error.
The Rams looked to rally in the sixth when Kylie Bulinski belted an RBI double to right-center field.
Mackenzie Frani, however, would not be deterred as she ended the threat en route to the complete game win. Frani struck out four and allowed just three hits.
