BRONX, N.Y. – Fordham pulled away in the middle innings to capture an 11-4 win in an Atlantic 10 series-opener vs. St. Bonaventure baseball Thursday afternoon.
St. Bonaventure led early, plating two runs in the first on RBI hits from Chris Hoalcraft and Conner Vercollone.
Bona's 2-0 advantage lasted until the fourth when two costly errors opened the door for a three-run frame for the Rams as Fordham grabbed the lead for the first time.
The Rams seized control with four runs in each the fifth and sixth innings including a grand slam from Anthony Grabau.
From there, Fordham (17-21, 8-8 A-10) never looked back on the way to a commanding victory.
Hoalcraft collected three hits and two RBIs to pace the Bona offense while Harrison Kaufman tallied three hits including a homer late as well. Jayce Tharnish posted two hits, scored twice and stole two bases. Now with 24 stolen bases on the season, Tharnish tied for seventh in Bonnies single-season history with Cole Peterson who had 24 swipes in 2017.
David James started for the Bonnies, working 4.1 innings while allowing three earned runs with no walks and four strikeouts. Ryan Klementowski and Ethan Catney-Forbes each threw scoreless innings of relief for the Bonnies (12-22, 3-13).
The teams renew acquaintances Friday morning for an 11 a.m. first pitch.
