ORLANDO, Fla. – Junior
Michael Bucko's outstanding performance headlined the Atlantic 10 Championship for the St. Bonaventure golf team at Grand Cypress Course at Evermore Resort.
Bucko was the Bonnies' low-finisher as he capped off the tournament with a 4-under 69 in Thursday's final round to tie for seventh place. Bucko is Bona's best individual finisher at championships since Josh Stauffer finished tied for third in 2014.
As a team, the Bonnies finished ninth in the 12 team field at the par-72 Grand Cypress Course at Evermore Resort in Orlando, Florida fueled by a strong final round.
The team finished the tournament strong, posting their low round of 292 after carding 306 in round one and 299 in round two.
Gabe Williams moved up eight spots on the final day of action, carding an even-par 72.
Williams made six birdies through his first 10 holes, posting a 4-under 32 on the back nine, but stumbled on the front with three bogeys and a double to finish at even par.
Williams shot 78 in the opening round and 74 in round two, where he made an ace on the par-3 17
th. The junior's 54-hole total of 224 (+8) earned him a 28
th-place finish in the field of 54 that played all three rounds.
Also in the lineup for all three rounds for the Bonnies was freshman
Braddock Damore. Damore posted his best score in round two with a 1-under 71. He made four birdies in the round, including three in a row on 13-15. The rookie posted a 79 in round one and 77 in round two to finish tied for 33
rd.
Grad student
Peter Byrne finished his Bonnies career with a strong final round of 74, his best of the tournament. He carded a 78 in round one and an 81 in round two.
Caleb Decker was in the lineup for the first two rounds of action for the Bonnies, posting matching 80s. Freshman
Dante Bertoni subbed in for the final round, shooting a 5-over 77.
