Piper Sets Single-Season Goals Record; Bonnies Dominate George Washington 17-7 in Regular Season Finale

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior Brooke Piper set the St. Bonaventure single-season scoring record in Bona's 17-7 win at George Washington Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale.

As a team, Bona's 17 goals on the day gave the team a total of 231 on the season, breaking the previous program record for goals in a season of 229 set in 2004.

St. Bonaventure (10-7, 6-4 A-10) has its first 10-win season since 2006 and its first winning regular season and Atlantic 10 record since 2007. The Bonnies have clinched a spot in the A-10 Tournament next weekend in Richmond, Va.

Piper's first goal of the day was her 63rd on the year, surpassing Molly Hastrich's record of 62 set in 2009. The third-year Bonnie finished the day with four points to bring her season total to 75, which is two off of the program single-season points record also set by Hastrich in 2009.

Fiona McGovern also reached 70 points on the season with a seven-point performance against the Revolutionaries. McGovern's three assists brought her to within one of the single season program record of 40 established by Brenna Houghton in 2007.

Piper and McGovern are the first Bonnies duo in program history to have 70 or more points in a season.

George Washington (8-9, 2-8 A-10) got on the board first as Caroline Sullivan scored on a feed from Emma McLaughlin, but the Bonnies responded with 14 unanswered goals spanning over 35 minutes of game time.

Tori Nascimento tallied four first half goals while Piper had a first half hat trick and McGovern added four points (2G-2A).

After cruising into the halftime break with a 12-1 lead, the Bonnies extended their advantage to 14-1, courtesy of goals from Grace Hollenbeck and Megan Schillinger to start the third.

The Revolutionaries offense came to life in the middle of the third and into the fourth, scoring five in a row to cut the Bona lead to 14-6.

McGovern responded with two unassisted goals and Nascimento added a power play score as the Bonnies scored their first ever win at George Washington. The 17-7 win represents the largest margin of victory for the Bonnies over GW as well.

Sophomore goalie Katelyn Hicks recorded her seventh game of the year with 10 or more saves, posting a .611 save percentage.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH LEIGHANN STAUFFER
"My staff and I are extremely proud of this team for the way they ended the regular season. While there is always room for improvement as we head into postseason play, we are looking good all over the field and the girls are locked in mentally. We're excited for our flight to Richmond on Tuesday."
