Ramblers Stifle Bonnies in Saturday Doubleheader

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell to Loyola Chicago in an Atlantic 10 doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Joyce Field.

The Bonnies dropped game one, 5-0, before falling in the night cap, 6-0.

GAME 1 – Loyola Chicago 5, St. Bonaventure 0
The Ramblers broke through in the top of the fourth inning when Maddie Hickey blasted a three-run home run.

Loyola Chicago tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the top of the fifth, pushing the lead to 5-0.

That would be enough for starting pitcher Peyton Pepkowski as she struck out 11 for the Ramblers.

Karena Recrosio, Victoria Jacques, Abigail Ahern and Sydney DeGram collected singles for the Bonnies.

Mackenzie Frani went the distance in the circle for the Brown and White, striking out a pair.

GAME 2 – Loyola Chicago 6, St. Bonaventure 0
The Ramblers jumped out to an early lead in game two, scoring three runs on a pair of errors.

The Bonnies loaded the bases in the bottom of the second, but were unable to push a run across.

Bona's looked to cut into the deficit again in the third, loading the bases with no outs.

The Ramblers, however, worked out of the jam, holding on to their 3-0 lead.

Loyola Chicago took a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth with a solo home run off the bat of Ali Pawlowicz.

The Ramblers pushed across a run in the sixth and seventh inning, taking a six-run lead and capturing the doubleheader sweep.

Ava Lomelin and Kylie Bickert combined to strike out four in the circle.

At the plate, Kendall Stull finished the game 3-for-4 while Kymora Wang registered a pair of hits.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH MIKE THREEHOUSE
"We have to learn how to finish innings. We had numerous chances to score runs today and just could not find the big hit. We are giving ourselves opportunities, now we have to take advantage of them."

UP NEXT
