DAYTON, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure University baseball team grabbed game one of a three-game series against Dayton, 8-4, on the road Thursday afternoon.
The Flyers scored the opening run of Thursday's series opener in the bottom half of the first.
Michael DiMartini crossed home on a sacrifice fly after reaching third on a leadoff double and a stolen base.
The Bonnies were able to tie the game in the top of the third when Mike Gunning led off the inning with a solo home run to left-center field.
Bona's grabbed the lead in the same inning when Jayce Tharnish scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Chris Hoalcraft.
DiMartini gave the Flyers back the lead in the home half of the third, blasting a two-run home run to make it a 3-2 game.
An RBI groundout from Tharnish in the top of the fifth tied the game at 3-3. The Bonnies retook the lead later in the inning when David Marshall Jr. scored on a double steal attempt.
Antonio Cordeiro extended the Bonnies lead to 6-3 in the sixth with a two-run blast to centerfield.
The Bonnies extended the lead to 8-3 in the eighth with a two-run single from Hoalcraft.
Dayton pulled one back in the bottom of the ninth with a solo home run.
Chance Moore worked 8.1 innings on the mound, scattering seven hits and striking out four. Luke Roggenburk entered in relief to record the final two outs of the contest, securing the win.
Tharnish finished the day with three hits while Hoalcraft, Gunning, Harrison Kaufman and Gavin Constantine registered two hits apiece.
