Bonnies and Lakers Battle to Scoreless Draw

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team battled Mercyhurst to a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.

The Bonnies (1-2-1) had their best opportunity of the game in the 82nd minute when Ricardo Rittersberger Galan found space in the box for a shot, but his attempt struck the post.

In the closing seconds, Seth Hammond managed to get off a shot, but it went into the side netting as the contest ended in a draw.

Bona's defense stood tall, holding the Lakers (0-1-2) without a shot to secure a second consecutive clean sheet.

In the first half, Brendan Sheehan nearly broke through in the 26th minute, but his effort was cleared off the line by a Mercyhurst defender. Just nine minutes later, Jesper van Halderen tested the keeper with a strike that was turned aside.

Hammond led the Bonnies with five shots, while Sheehan added three. Ritter Sundby, Kyle Macfarlane and Rittersberger Galan each recorded two attempts.

Goalkeeper Felix Schöne earned his fourth start of the season and collected his second shutout.

The Bonnies return to action Wednesday, Sept. 3, when they travel to face Le Moyne. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m. in Syracuse.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH MICK GIORDANO
"Number one, another clean sheet. We continue to believe and grow as a group. Had a couple of guys missing today and just kept going with that next-man-up mentality. We had a really good performance. Sometimes football happens and you don't find the winner, but that's alright. We just have to continue to take our steps forward."
